Strawberry Jar Planter Questions

Saint Louis, MO(Zone 6a)

Are there any dos and don'ts when using strawberry jar planters for strawberries? For herbs?
Anything special about watering or feeding?

Thank you.

I have a tall planter and when I first used it I found it hard to keep the lower plants watered enough to keep them going so I drilled holes in a 2" PVC pipe and placed it in the container before adding my soil and plants and this helps tremendously. I now have sedums in my planter so I don't worry so much about having enough water. But I'm not an expert on these planters either. On my smaller planters I usually soak them in a tub every once in awhile. These are the ones with herbs or violets or whatever.
