Just started trimming back and cleaning out iris beds for a new year. Last fall I overwintered a few small rhizomes that I didn't think would survive the winter. I planted them in orchid mix (I had a bag sitting around) and put them in a garage window. It got too cold to work in the garage, but not below freezing. They got a little moisture every now and then and recently have started to really grow! I think I will transplant these into pots using bought soil mix and put them where I can control moisture and keep from slugs. I have had big problems with rot and slugs, borers, etc. and I am wondering how they will do with an isolation regime.
A new season beginning
