I collected this naturally restrained Sub-Alpine Fir at Timberline growing in an inch or two of soil on solid bedrock. It was 25 years old at the time, and under normal growing conditions would have been about 25 feet tall. It may not technically be a Bonsai, but i think other Bonsai lovers will enjoy seeing it.

Ernie, How did you date it as being 25yrs old? I think it is great. Don
I'm always looking for trees in "restrained" growth while out and about. I think your specimen is fantastic!
Dlm. That variety sets one main layer of branches each year. I was able to see the scars down below where the branches remain. Plus there were other trees close by that were probably of a similar age, but with branches about a foot apart. I brought it to So. Cal, when i retired in 1998, and had to leave it with a friend as i moved onto my boat. He did the best he could, but it never adapted to the change in climate, and it only lived about 5 years.
Ernie, Thanks, I learned something. What a shame that you lost it. Don
