Satsuma Tree

Fruitland Park, FL

I live in central Fl. I have a Satsuma Tree that is 11yrs old. One year after planting had about 4 fruit on it. Since then I haven't seen any Bloom or Fruit. The Tree is quite healthy and beautiful. But no Fruit. Could you please tell me why it is doing this. I fertilze it about 2 or 3 Times a Yr. Thank you.

I have to google what it is. We have 8 persimmon tree and 2 varieties of pears and we only fertilize once a year. I had been gardening for years and had read somewhere that over fertilization is not good. Just to prove a point I fertilized tomatoes and it grew robust but did not have fruits as much as the other that was not fertilized much. Perhaps someone can comment on this.Happy gardening!! Belle

Hi Jakakinder,

What a delightful picture.
Which of the 2 gorgeous girls is you ?
The one eating the Cupcake or the one licking fingers ?

I fear Bellieg is spot on.
I never fertilize any of my Fruit trees except with Horse Poop.

South Louisiana is loaded with satsumas and satsuma trees. It's actually a thriving business there. Look up members from that area.

Proper Citrus care depends on your climate and soil conditions. I have trouble providing enough fertilizer for Citrus trees, because it is too wet here.

To produce more fruit, once the trees are mature, give them fertilizers that are higher in potassium and lower in nitrogen.

Citrus needs regular fertilizer applications when the tree is being developed, and much less for maintenance when it is mature and producing fruit. Citrus reacts well to organic fertilizers.

The University of Florida recommends a fertilizer ratio of 2 - 1 - 3 (N - P - K) Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium, for Citrus and Palms growing in Florida's organically poor soils.
