ID for Elm? Pruning help.

Wiggins, MS(Zone 8b)

I bought this labeled only as Chinese Elm. I would love to know what kind of Elm it is. It is also a taller than I want. One larger limb shows where the wire was to tight. How much can I prune back and will it send out more limbs from the cut?

See how tall for the setting? I really want a lower canopy.

If they aren't recent transplants, you can cut them back to 2/3 of the height you desire & they will back-bud profusely. The extra 1/3 is room for the canopy to develop.

I would cut the heaviest trunk back to 2/3 of the end height you want the trees to be, and the thin trunk 1/2-2/3 of that height. The thickest trunk should always be the tallest.

Thanks so much Al. I have learned a lot from you here at DG over the years. You and your knowledge are greatly appreciated.
