Pipe Creek Wildlife Area part 5

Wonderful photos, Burd. It's strange to see owls out and about during the daylight hours. Ours are nocturnal. That's so cool about the Nuthatch.

Love the pics - swans I have seen 1time in the wild near Cape Town - do not ask me what they were doing there - they were also in our old bird books, but the new ones they are not. Anyway, amazing birds.

Thanks all! Its been in the mid 30's here so things have slowed a bit a far as frogs and snakes emerging it will be warming up next weekend hoping that re-awakens the creek and maybe the owls will return to hunt.
I have a few shots to share from a couple of quick trips to the creek.
There's an old groundhog at the creek with a really bad leg...think this Turkey Vulture knows something.

Double-crested Cormorants

Green-winged Teal...I have found a spot to set up in camo...hoping to get some Wood Duck shots on flat/calm water...only one way to know if I succeed. lol

Ahhh, trying to shoot Swan's in flight is just plain aggravating sometimes..lol, their big and fly low.

male Horned Grebe's...plumage is changing now.

Will finish up with a quick Canada Goose set...Ive got so many shots of these birds that I try to get more action out of their pics now.

this is the look you give after you've been bit on the butt by another goose and its caught on camera...lol

Found a spot at the creek where the Wood duck's have been hiding along with some Hooded Merganser's and Bufflehead Duck's.
didn't try to spoil the spot was thinking of where I could set up in camo with the right lighting. Till next time.

Oh, so true! I only have 2 pics of Buffleheads...and it frustrates me to no end when certain species of waterfowl remain in the middle of a lake/pond and my camera gets nothing but a dot! We can't afford a new higher power lens for the camera either.
Why can't they be more like Mallards and American Coots...more apt to be swimming along the edges? HA!
Even on a really windy day those webbed feet help them maintain their positionout there...as many times I had hoped the winds would push them closer to the edges of the lake/pond. Even getting pics of Eared and Horned Grebes are a pain.
Oh so frustrating...lol

Wow, Burd !!! Great series of shots. Most of the waterfowl that doesn't breed in Maryland has left. I have not been out for sometime, except for photographing the Osprey twice. It's soon time to hit the road ......

The weather here has not been to cooperative lately and had to work on my truck over the last week but have manage to get some photo's put together to add to the thread.
