Birds from Queensland part 2

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Unlike all the other Birds that wonder into My Studio.
This shy little fella was not very cooperative when it came to Picture time.
Several times it played dead only to struggle harder next.

So I promptly let it go without a good profile shot.
There is a small group of about 5 of them running around.
But they are far to quick for me to take a good Picture.
Hope this helps Resin.

OK then.

Hi Ginger - sorry, forgot to look in! Yep, still a quail, but impossible to tell what species.

Resin

OK then Resin,
Thanks for at least giving it a shot.

In my books, the only one it looks as if it could be is the Brown Quail, Coturnix ypsilophora

What do you think?

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Thanks Margaret for the links.
No time to look this morning.
But I have a whole free day tomorrow.

Did you try to add a picture yesterday ?
I could not add any Pictures ?
I'll try again tomorrow.

kell.

PERTH, Australia

No, Kell, I haven't tried to add an image, but the links have images of the Brown Quail.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

I meant adding Pictures to DG.

PERTH, Australia

Ah. Well, no to that, as well, hell. It's been too hot here to step outside. We've been having tempteratures over 38C. Revolting.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

How is the temp. there this week Margaret ?

We have 5 days of rain to look forward to this week.

I have 5 King Parrots coming to my feeder now.
Not seen them here before.

Maybe word got around that kell has good Tucker. ^_^

PERTH, Australia

Lucky you, getting King Parrots, kell. They're stunning.

Things are heating up and we're expecting a run of 39's and 40's by the end of the week. Roll on winter.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

I will be adding Pictures of the kings in the next couple of days.

You poor thing, to put up with those temps is unbearable.
Do you have Air-Con ?

One Xmas a few years ago.
I ran the sprinkler on the tin roof to try to keep cool. ^_^
And yes it worked just fine.

PERTH, Australia

They're ghastly temps. Yes we have refrigerated aircon, thank goodness. With 40 predicted for Australia Day, I wonder if numbers will be down at the Skyworks.

I look forward to seeing your King Parrots.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

I first planted this Macadamia Nut tree here 32 years ago.
After enjoying the Macadamia nuts from this tree for 27 years.
It was time to say good bye and cut it down.
They are truly the dirtiest trees I have ever kept.
They shed leaves every day of the year. (not so good for Pool)
And the fallen nuts are killers on ones feet when mowing this area.

The recently lopped Tree is now the support for the new feeder.
The Birds took a while to find it but now come every day.

This was the first time I saw a King on the feeder.
Within a week he was bringing his whole Family along.

I had not even finished painting the platform before these Guys turned up for afternoon tea.

I decided to build a fairly large platform to keep Rats from climbing up onto it.
They can only eat the scraps off the ground.
Our Rats are the wild native bush rats.
Not the European kind.

Lovely shots of your tropical paradise there, kell. Lucky you having the King Parrots - and the Sulphur-crested Cockatoos. (Nice ute, too)

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

You guys have some awesome beautiful birds. So much bright vivid colors. Very nice Kell.

Margaret, sorry to hear your are experiencing yet another extremely hot Summer. You must have a lot of humidity associated with it, being so close to the coast.

PERTH, Australia

Thanks, Burn. Presently, the heat is very dry, as the wind is coming across the desert. When the trough crosses the coast, the humidity sky rockets.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Margaret,

I just went down to my front gate.
Took a few Pictures back up towards My Studio.
We have just gotten 7" of that wet stuff from the Sky. (in 3 hours)
No one is going anywhere for the next few days.

Do you want some of this stuff to cool you down ?

kell, I saw the forecast for parts of Qld. Amazing stuff. Yes, please, send it on over and I'll let you have some of our heat.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Geez, 7 inches in a mere 3 hours! Those poor plants wouldn't know how to cope with the monsoon. Tehehehehe, it's so nice that you two are so willing to share each other's climate Kell and Margaret. Kell, lovely garden and such colorful feathered friends you've gotten there. Beautiful setting. Howdy Burn and Resin.

Just need your postal address. ;O)

This is looking out towards Front Gate.
That was my stockpile of Horse poop next to barrow.
It's all gone now.
Just as well I have my own poop factory's. ^_^

Let's hope it doesn't turn out to be a repeat of last year, hell. Amazing property you have.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Thanks Kim.

Just checked boundry fence.
And about 180 feet is gone walk-about.

The grass under the old Macadamia tree is all but dead.
I am going to plant 'SirWalter' Grass there soon.

I was typing over you Margaret.
So I missed your post..

You are right there, no repeat of last year please.
This is from the front gate a couple of weeks ago.
Nice and dry hey ?

Wow that's beautiful! Kell

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Thanks Burn,

I just can't imagine some Americans paying upwards of $15,000 to buy these Birds in USA.
So here they are flying around all the time.
And if we can entice them to come down to our feeders.
We get the bonus joy of taking their Picture.

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

I have never seen these Guys breeding here at home.
These are very young Ducks that only fly in to feed on Horse food.

Kell, that last gate shot looks like paradise to me. Not so much the rain though!

Ditto to Mrs. Ed. how lovely!!!

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

Thanks Resin for the ID.

Thanks also to Mrs_Ed and Kim, you are so kind.

I decided to go out to the front gate an hour ago and take this new Picture.
It's still raining now and our total rain-fall since Tuesday Night is over 330 mm. (13")

Oh Cripes. That's not good.

Love those palms. Are they Sagos?
And what are those gorgeous plants in front of the fence?

Brisvegas, Australia(Zone 12b)

They are Canary Palms Mrs_Ed.

I just can't remember the real name of the succulents.
I'll look it up later and report back.

This is them in Flower.

This Picture is from a Public Garden.
