Purple Robe Locust tree trunk split

I have a 3 year old Purple Robe Locust with a split trunk all the way down.The trunk is about 8 inches around. Will it survive or is this a disease?

Looks like a drought crack that happened a while back, and is now growing over OK. It should survive, though bear in mind that they are fairly short-lived anyway.
