I've just started needle-turn and starch-method appliqueing - I've gone a little bit insane for it. ;)
I've read and heard in several places (books, internet sites, videos) that you should never clip or notch the outside curves, only the inside curves. They always say to just ease the fabric under the fold, because clipping and notching leaves the area weaker and vulnerable to ravelling and you should only clip where absolutely necessary, like sharp inner points or curves.
But, I was just reading a pattern the other day and it said to notch the outside curves.
Which way would you go with this "rule?" Can you safely ignore it, or is this pattern maker taking unnecessary chances?
Thanks in advance!
