Kitty & Cocoa 11

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

This is the ongoing story of Kitty & Cocoa, two strays I took in this past spring. Kitty, the mother, was about 1yr old at the time and living on the street with her two kittens, having apparently been dumped by her prior owner. She was semi-feral and extremely distrustful of humans. By the time I was able to work with them her 2 kittens were said to be too old to be reachable. One kitten died when struck by a car. The other one Cocoa has grown up to be a big, loveable, sweetie who loves nothing more than to be petted.

The battle for their hearts isn't won yet though. Both continue to improve slowly but surely. It has been about a year now since I 1st took them in. Kitty is roughly 2yrs old now. She has made a lot of progress but remains quite distrustful of humans in many ways, so there is still much work to do here. Cocoa is about 1yr old now. Having never had the bad experiences Kitty experienced, Cocoa has grown to be very loving. He's a very big fella now and just loves to be scritched and massaged and petted. He would rather be petted than fed. He has come a long way in his relationship with me but remains terrified of everyone else.

This is their continuing story.

The photo below shows Kitty on the stairs working on the finer points of grooming. This was taken last summer shortly after I adopted her.
