maqui berry

Charlotte, VT

I just came across a supposed new super fruit named the Maqui Berry. One website says that it's a small tree that grows in Patagonia. Does anybody know what the fruit tastes like, how to grow it, the required growing zone, and where you can buy plants? I'm hopeful that if it can grow in Patagonia that it can grow in zone 4.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Here's a place to buy it: http://www.forestfarm.com/product.php?id=530 I found another site that listed it as hardy to -10C which would put it in zone 8 instead of zone 9, but I think zone 4 would be a long shot. http://www.patagoniaplants.com/products/shrubs/aristotelia-chilensis/detailed-product-flyer.html

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Only hardy to -10° puts it in zone 9; while an average winter in zone 8 only gets to around -10°, a severe winter in zone 8 can get down to -12° to -20°. Patagonia may be chilly in summer, but it never gets seriously cold there in winter.

Sorry, it wouldn't stand a chance in zone 4!
