I'm pretty new to gardening, and I just tried my hand at winter sowing and I love it. I've been looking around for a vine to grow over my patio area, thats near the pool. I had dreamed of some pretty Wisteria, until I researched them and realized I don't want that mess above where we play and entertain. So I'm back at square one, any help?!
Vine for a patio area in zone 5, full sun.
If you don't want a vine that's invasive (spreads by runners), plant a Clematis, which is a perennial (comes back every year) or plant several annual vines, such as morning glories - annual vines won't create a big mess.
i live in zone 5. Autumn clematis does well here (southwestern Michigan) Mine climbs the east side of the screen patio, and over a metal trellis, the little birds love to nest in it, and In the spring I trim it way back and it just keeps coming.
