Plastic bag prices going up?

I was surprised at the store yesterday, he asked if he could give me paper bags as they are conserving their plastic. Grocery store plastic bags have suddenly gone up to 5 cents each. I guess I will hang on to all the ressable bags my MIL keeps buying on a whim! I'm thinking maybe I'll pick up another bag of trash bags now too, to last us a while. Is this short term, related to the oil prices ? I'm stumped.
