Thanks for starting a new thread Margaret! Your birds are so cool down there. I even had to do some reading on the Bee Eaters to learn they knock off the stingers and venum before eating them...fascinating stuff! :)

SusanLouise, I just love the series on the juvie hawk. Too funny.

Here's a picture of an "odd-looking" female cardinal that has been showing up at the feeders. Not a very good picture, but she only shows up late in the afternoon, and my photograhy skills haven't improved one bit since the last time I posted!

Cute little Nuthatch GG...ours are too fast for me!

Susan Louise...lose those shots of the juvie Hawk...very cool!!

Rose...Your little female Card looks just like my little "Lucy"!

I do believe this might be a female rb wp, and I got her red belly in this shot. She does not have the red stripe on her head as much as the others and she is smaller too. Do correct me if I am wrong.

Here is another shot of her, there is some red on her head but not as much as on the male.

We have a leucistic bird here too...a DE Junco I named "Gramps" last year. He returned this year, bless his heart! He was here Dec 2009-March 2010 last winter...
Here's info on the condition...

And here's our "Gramps"...

I read about it in Birds and Blooms, but this is the first one that I've seen. DellRose, I will have to name mine Ethel!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

I meant to pass on "Get Well Soon" wishes to Helen last night!
Hope you are feeling better and back on your feet quickly!

Norman, OK

More snow today and lots of birds. Got a lifer-- a Fox Sparrow. Had a couple of Pine Siskens, Ring-necked Ducks, a couple of Pin-tails and a kinfisher on the pond.

Wow. Seeing all your snow laden shots is just amazing. What is even more amazing is how well adapted to freezing conditions birds are.

There's a very pale coloured Rainbow Lorikeet in the neighbourhood. I've seen it several times over the past 8 months or so. It hangs out with the other Rainbow Lorikeets. It doesn't have any white feathers and the colour of its eyes are normal. It was feeding with the others on palm flowers.

First, the normal birds:

Now the pale one:

Welcome back, Pelle. I hope you're feeling better.

I lied. That's also the normal one. Here you go.

Boy really nice guys! I sure wish my hawk would sit for photos like yours Susan....very nice!

Here are a few from a couiple days back. The first was another really nice surprise. The cold and ice brought in a male Red-bellied Woodpecker. We haven't seen one since back in the fall!

Wow, I almost missed this thread and it's such a beauty! Excellent start Margaret. I'm awed by your archives! Love the lorikeets too. You have the most interesting plants!

Rose, love that staring look! Were you doing the Rusty Blackbird count? I'm awed by people who do that. Counting birds freaks me out a little although I always do the great backyard bird count.

VA_Wild_Rose -- lovely white-throated! Congrats. They are one of my favorites and one I don't see too often.

GG, cool eagle shot!

SusanLouise -- love that hawk! Great job.

Dave, gorgeous waxwing shots.

Everyone -- great shots!

I couldn't stop taking pictures of House Finches yesterday. I need a 12 step program! I'm only going to share one -- how's that for restraint?! Took this with one hand while talking on the phone with the other. Could have been clearer with two hands but I like these two pretty boys.

Cool birds on such a gloomy day Hugger!

This is another one that I have taken too many pictures of -- an Orange-crowned Warbler. Wish I could get one in the foliage, but only stands still long enough at the feeder.

I've missed a couple days and so many beautiful photos-well done everyone.

Margaret, love the photos of your beautiful birds. Thanks for the new start.

Pelle, I do hope you're feeling better.

I haven't been outside much, but here's one of my orange-variant House Finches.
