Quilt cutting aids

I have learned that the cutting mat measurements are not accurate. I have tried to use the ruler I have but am having issues with the fabric having to be cut from left to right. I have looked at Accuquilt and QuiltCut, both being expensive and am trying to find a ruler tha measures from right to left so that I can cut on the right side of it. Any input on what works for you?
