To clean corroded battery juice?

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

My husband is keeper of the 'remotes'. We have a tv in the bedroom and never use the remote but it lays by his nightstand. That television comes on if the power cuts off and on. I was standing on that side of the bed last night when a flash of lightening made the power flicker and the tv came on. I reached for the remote to turn it off, but no response. I opened the battery tray and naturally it housed a pair of "AA"s that were hoping to eat the remote.

My question is what is your best recommendation for cleaning the corrosion to see if we still have a remote? I don't think I want to wash it as that would probably hurt the electronics.

Assistance appreciated!
