Petey Kelly has bloomed!

Oviedo, FL(Zone 9b)

I was sitting in my room watching tv tonight wondering what that sweet smell was I kept getting a whiff of and I turned to my plant window and lo and behold, Epiphyllum 'Petey Kelly' was blooming both from the main plant and the chunk that broke off when I brought it in this summer. I guess that's a sign that it rooted. It really is fragrant! This picture is from the cutting. I am so excited. It didn't bloom last year but the cutting I gave my girlfriend did! I am back in the game now!

Yay, Martha! Great to be back in the game.

I have never smelled one. What do they smell like?

I have my first brugs growing from some cuttings, and actually having good luck with them. I'm not a house plant person. I have never smelled those either, but keep hearing about the smell.

fragrance is sweet, like honeysuckle. It is very fleeting. It really is the strongest on the day the bud blooms and dissipates very quickly after that. If you have lots of buds, they do bloom sequentially and so the fragrance appears to be long lasting, but it really isn't.
