Daily Bird Pics - Vol 368
I didn't mean to run the last thread into the ground. I thought I was on this new one.
Nice start Burd. Fantastic pix. Your 580 flash as working great for you!

All wonderful shots Burd! I love the White-breasted Nuthatch.
Thanks for starting the new thread!
Have not seen any birds here either. It is very warm here about 48 degrees, so no one at the feeders. But it WILL get colder, Mother nature is not through with us yet. Everybody have a safe and great New Year!
Really good shots of the Downy.
A Sharp Shinned hawk is very hungry and keeps flying thru and scaring the Goldfinches and other small birds, and the quail
A tiny owl, I believe a Northern Saw Whet, has been in the yard a couple of times , past two days. Haven't been able to get a picture of it.. And also a Shrike has been looking for lunch near the feeders. Today it is sunny and bright, no wind, the temp. is 3 degrees above zero.
When my son took me to Spokane Wed., the weather was pretty bad for driving, after we had driven about half of the 170 miles to the Dr.'s office, then snowing hard the rest of the day until we finally got halfway home. My son is a good driver and drives a fairly new Toyota Highlander, so we got safely back home, 12 hours in all.
The PA after looking at the Xrays taken shortly before I saw him, said surgery was needed and as soon as possible. The Xray showed that of the 4 screws put in place to hold the cup for the joint, ball only was was still holding, the other 3 are fractured, after 16 years. So surgery is necessary to replace the cup and ball, and other reconstruction is necessary. There is no other qualified specialist nearer. And this doctor is so busy that the PA said it might be as long as 2 months if there isn't a cancellation.
He also said for me to extemely careful, so that hopefully what's left of the cup will not shatter completely. Also try not to put any weight on the leg. I have to wait until Tues. to talk to the Doctor's scheduling nurse to find a date for the doctor to do the surgery. So I guess I will just have to be as careful and patient as possible, which actually means I can't do much of anything.
If we don't get too much snow I can still feed the birds.
Donna
Thanks for the update Donna. Please do be careful!
Lionhrt, your nuthatch is sweet.
Dave, that mocker shot is superb!
Hack, great threesome shot! Love all the ducks too! Love the wren!
Burd, thanks for the wonderful new start-so many pretty photos. Loved those wps!
Donna, take care of yourself first, then the birds. We don't want you having any accidents. Sure is a shame the doctor can't help you any sooner.
Here's a White-crowned Sparrow.
I went to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge in FL today to try out my new camera (Sony alpha 33) Due to our drought about 75% of the ponds were dry, dramatically reducing the number and variety of birds. However there were a fair number of Glossy Ibis, Roseate Spoonbills, White Pelicans and Anhingas.
A pair of Roseate Spoonbills:
Duc, Lovely shots!
bsharf, So nice to see the Anhinga, Tricolored Heron and others! Wonderful pics! Sorry to hear about your drought.
Wonderful shots Burd and Duc. Bsharf, great to see the beautiful Roseate Spoonbills, so pretty. Love seeing birds from your area.
ducbucln - your pic of the White-crowned Sparrow is super - perfect.
bsharf - congrats on the new camera. I loved the heron shots, especially the tri-colored.

Burd thanks for the new thread ..and very nice start! I love seeing your RBN! Had so hoped we would hve them this year.
I didn't get a photo...but yesterday morning as I opened one of the window blinds there was a PAIR of Cooper's Hawks in the back yard!! I ran as fast as I could downstairs to get the camera but they were already gone. I have seen a paird of Red-shouldered's but never the Cooper's. Thought that was very cool!
Have been playing with the video on the Canon...and I found out I can take a still shot while video taping....LOL!
lIke this of the Pileated Woodpecker.....

Oh Bsharf what beautiful pics.. AND birds..of course. It's funny I was just reading one of my Audobon magazines & they wrote about the Gulf Coast ( specifically Texas.. Corpus Christi area) of the Roseate Spoonbills etc.. one of my favorite birds is the heron... we have a lot of the white herons & egrets in my area. I happened to see 1 Blue Heron flying over me..what a beautiful sight!!!
I had some shots I had taken in the summer but our computer died in October so it wiped all my photos out..so I have yet to reload them all!!!!
But I am certianly enjoying all of yours... keep up the good work!! hahaha
Happy New Year to everyone!!
