I was gifted a beautiful Lacey leaved Japanese Maple by a fellow DG'er this past Fall. It is still in a small 8in pot. I am worried about what to do with it for the winter. Should I bring it in or just leave it outside under shelter? I didnt want to plant it yet for fear it would weather in the yard yet. So any thought s about this?
Young Japanese Maples and winter!
I have a Japanese maple that has been in a pot since I got it. It was a 2 ft stick then. Its now about 6 ft. and the pot is a 20 inch diameter. I've never brought it in or moved it out of its spot. It is within a few feet of the porch though.
Thanks Beclu.... Do you think I should just submerge this little guy and all into a larger pot with soil to insulate the roots?
I used packing peanuts as insulation between a 2 pots a couple years ago. I think it helped, but who knows. The plant survived! It wasn't a tree though. I think it was a perennial salvia. They are hardy anyway. J Maples are fairly hardy here in GA. Extra soil should help.
