This squirrel was eating Crepe Myrtle seeds.
Oh my...that is so sweet!
this isnt a very good photo... i was taking it from about 200 feet away...
but when i was in my kitchen, i looked out and saw the cute lil bugger hanging up side down from the sunflower head...
he was starting to curl back up to get more seeds when I snapped... there is another guy in the ground catching what squirrel #1 dropped.
Gotta love them!!

That baffle seem to work great Nanny. Wish my setup was made for one of those. I have a 4x4 post, and a tree branch on top, that is to close. I can't cut it, because it's going to deform the tree too much.
Here's the Red Squirrel with his Pine cone. He has a stash under that little house. at the neighbor's pond.
He's up in the pine tree, cutting the tip of the branch with the cones on. He was a bit too far for a good picture.

Do squirrels share nest???? I saw each of these squirrels go in and out of the nest!

This squirrel just opened the feeder and took out a Pecan.
This one's got a walnut.
I so wish I could have one of those lttle boxes for the squirrels. I just think that is so cute to watch them get in there and pick one out!

Never mind I had 7 squirrels out here yesterday, but the raccoons would enjoy that way too much!! I guess if I made sure it was empty at night, but they still might tear it up.
Crazy raccoons. too bad they don't hibernate.

My goodness Nanny, 10!!!! By the size of them, they are certainly not starving.
mine get so fat too in the winter. poor things. i have had about 5 at a time.
5 is still a lot. I 've seen 2 red and 1 gray here, they are not coming much lately. You guys must be closer to wooded area, then I am.

It seems endless right now. Trying to teach Gus not to bark at them, otherwise he would be barking all day! Doing pretty good with it so far.
I guess my home made suet recipe is a hit with the squirrels.
Sure is a pudgy lil guy.

do you have a recipe, or just toss stuff together?
Mostly I just toss stuff together, but got the basics from Sialis.org. They have a ton of recipes there and I think you could probably make any of them.
This stuff is lard, peanut butter, cornmeal, flour, sunflower seeds, walnuts and peanuts. I was out of oatmeal or would have used some. The walnuts were old, so I tossed them in. I have some of that squirrel repellent pepper and I meant to toss that in, but forgot. clearly, tee hee.
I tried making some last year...but they ate it faster than I could make it so I gave up!
I like it when they have something distinctive about them so you can ID individuals. This one is missing half its tail!
