Had some cannas for the first time. The instructions were vague and did not answer the questions I had. Here are some questions I had:
(1) Can you leave the bulb in the ground over winter?
(2) Does it do any good to split them for the next season?
(3) Some of my bulbs did not emerge. Should I dig those for next year?
Thanks for the help.

My canna experience
Karin I would think canna lily's would still be OK in your area - to leave in the ground I mean. Pretty sure they are safe in the ground to 7a and perhaps even above.
You can definitely divide them to spread them around, although they do a pretty good job of "spreading around" themselves.
The bulbs that didn't emerge I'd check to see if they're still alive - chances are they may have rotted away. I had some transplants that did that to me once. For the most part it's hard to kill a canna lily, but some types seem more prone to rot than others.
Hope this helps.
