Ok, the builder of the new house that is right on top of me is now making sounds like they have changed their mind on installing a privacy fence between our houses.
If that ends up the case I suppose I will put two trellis right on the property line.
Here is my question. Would these trellis be sufficiently stable and strong to be stand alones if they were made of rebar and put in concrete?
All I plan on having climb up them is the hyacinth bean vine.
Both trellis would be about the size of a double window in width.
Thanks
Dawn
Trellis for privacy
Yes, they would easily support HB - what are your plans for screening for the winter? Perhaps you could consider a perennial vine for year-around privacy.
So true... I guess I need to do a little research into them (unless someone has experience with one that they would recommend).
Dawn
Dawn, I have personally grown these and they are hardy in your zone. Some of these vines were grown for the berries they provide the birds, some for their flowers and/ fall foliage.
Perennial Vines For Zone 7
Boston ivy (Parthenocissus tricuspidata) - can become invasive
Carolina jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens)
Crossvine (Bignonia capreolata)
Clematis (Clematis), selected varieties
Dutchman's pipe (Aristolochia durior)
Goldflame honeysuckle (Lonicera x heckrottii x 'Goldflame')
Passionflower (Passiflora) - spreads by runners
Trumpet creeper (Campsis radicans) spreads by runners
Wisteria (Wisteria sp.) - spreads by runners
Climbing Hydrangea - will become a MASSIVE vine
American Bittersweet (Celastrus scandens)
Thanks Kay. I'll have to check those out.
