CLOSED: Question about red monarda

columbia, TN(Zone 7a)

I see that several have the seeds, but plant files says propagation is by division or cuttings. Noticed that on several perennials' any comments? Thanks Annette

Annette, if the plant is a cultivar it's better to propagate them by division or cuttings, because the seeds may not come true. On the other hand, sowing the seeds of these plants can result in the same plant. You always take a risk with seeds of cultivars.

You can always sow a few and see what you wind up with. Sometimes you'll get a mix of true and not true- for example, the seeds from my Chianti sunflowers gave me about half Chianti and half a lovely red and yellow streaked bloom.

It's always fun to see what you get!

So far my seeds seem to produce just fine. I do have lots of runners right now ready to send off.
