I have had this for about 15 years. Bought it small and it has grown into my pride and joy. I have actually put this straight into the garden to grow for the summer and had fabulous
results. I have grown it now for the past 5 years in semi-hydroponics and it just loves it. I think the fact the the roots have freedom is why it has grown so well.
Operculicarya decaryi
Awesome! Saw a few of these at a C&S show on Sunday.
Magnifcent. You must be very proud of this plant. Don
How deep is that pot (can't see in the photo)? What are the roots anchoring themselves to? Why doesn't the plant fall over?
By the way, this plant has grown like a weed in this culture. I notice that I have to water this one a lot more than the others. This really likes water in the summer.
Do the roots actually sit in that 1" layer of water at the bottom?
It is amazing that on many of the plants, when I repot them, the roots have grown into the water and are very happy. I just repotted my Bursera foecoides and the roots had grown into the water and were very happy. This plant is know to be very water sensitive! It really is interesting.
That is gorgeous Yasir. The weirder and more twisted the better. Neat plant.
Another home run
Just amazing, I love your collection Sally.
More Caudiporn, its disgusting. Flipping disgusting.
Actually its very nice, I say we all drop in on Sally next Saturday for coffee and a look around, then off to Yasir's for a bit of tea and the plants in his and his friends collections.
Caudiporn! I love it, never heard that one. I am so happy to share my plants with all of you. My boyfriend and dog are sick of hearing about them. lol
I love that! I have a tiny one and it is getting moved into s/h tomorrow!
Yasir, great plant! It's amazing, I live half a world away and have the same weeds in my pots! hee hee.
This plant loves s/h and lots of water.
I have this plant in a 4" pot and its almost about 2 feet tall... very graceful branches, and the main trunk is slowly becoming fatter. I've only had it for 4 months, and even though it doesn't do anything dramatic on a daily or weekly basis, it has been maturing steadily. I would say the main trunk has doubled its diameter in the time I've had it which I consider rather astounding for this seemingly docile plant.
I heard that if kept potbound and pruned, it will develop a fatter trunk/caudex faster. The other side of this treatment is that the plant needs to be watered more frequently. Since my plant is flourishing, I can't complain really...
