Please identify this annual

Ventress, LA(Zone 8b)

This plant grows every year in my flower garden. I have no idea where it came from. It grows to about 5' tall, is blooming now (August/Sept.) in zone 9 and reseeds itself each year. Those are the pods it makes. If anyone can identify, please do so.

Dont start crowing yet !!!LOL
I am not an expert and have half a qualm about the height of your plant.
The Birdsfoot Trefoil that grows here is less than 20 inches.
You might try the Tre and Plant ID forum. to be sure. There are a few Boteny people over there.

I did look at the Birdsfoot Trefoil and the leaves do look a bit different.
I am will try the plant ID forum if I can navigate correctly....am not sure.

No birdsfoot trefoil here, thats a tiny plant that forms mats in the grass alongside the roads in full sun up here--same flower shape/color but way smaller. What you have is a species of Crotalaria, I would have thought spectabalis, but your plant's flowers seem to be pendant rather than on stiff upright spikes, so its some other species of Crotalaria, probably one of the many African ones.

I'll take a look at that in the plant files to confirm.
thanks ever so!
