Creepies on my hostas

Lawrenceville, GA(Zone 7b)

I have some unwanted visitors on some potted plants on the back porch. I have noticed these on potted hostas and a clematis that I started a well as an evolvolus Blue Daze. I've seen ants crawling on the plants which I thought nothing odd of until I saw this. We have had an excess of moths flying around too. They almost look like sesame seeds but are waxy and can be scraped off with your nail. My back porch is at 2nd floor level, house is a split level. Have no idea where they came from. Please help and what can I use to get rid of them?

Thanks in advance!

Sounds like scale. They secrete honeydew, which is what the ants are after. They are a little tough to kill because of their hard shells, so if you can scrape some of them off then I'd do that for starters, then spray with neem or insecticidal soap.
