Clematis seeds

Galesburg, MI(Zone 6a)

I planted some clematis this year not knowing anything about them but loving the flowers. Noticed today that there are seed heads drying. Are the seeds fertile? Will they come true to type?

Calgary, Canada

The seeds are fertile.
Do you have more then one kind growing?

I think they might come true if you have only one kind.
Otherwise you might get interesting hybrids.

I had three different kinds growing -- Mrs. N Thompson, Fireworks and Rouge Cardinal. So it should be interesting to see what I get as far as hybrids.

I think those are all clematis macropetala so the seeds need a month of warmth
and then about two months in the 'frig and then back to warmth to germinate.
I do them on moist paper towels. You could also do them in moist vermiculite in a
plastic bag.

Or on a pot of moist seed starter soil mix.
The seeds need to be moist ,but not soggy through out the process.

Is the "warmth" equivalent to inside my house temps or do they need something warmer?

Calgary, Canada

Warmth means ordinary home temperatures of about 70ºF or 20ºC.
