Compostable chips bags made with GM microbes?

Central Valley, CA(Zone 9a)

I was pretty excited about SunChips coming out with a compostable bag. Yet, I just read an article describing biodegradable plastics. It seems that the compostable type are made from GM microbes that convert corn into plastic. This is a real big turn-off.

Does anyone know anymore about this?
