Ok, I have showed this bug to people and they have no idea what it is. It was on the side of my tree this summer with what looks some kind of sap extractor poked into the tree.
Any idea's?
What kind of Bee,wasp, hornet?
This appears to be Megarhyssa atrata (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae); see http://tinyurl.com/axadon for an image. These wasps are parasitic on the larvae of wood wasps (Hymenoptera: Siricidae); the female Megarhyssa uses her very long ovipositor to bore into the tunnels made by the wood wasp larvae. The ichneumon wasps cause no harm to the tree, and are harmless to humans as well, as they lack venom and have no stinger.
Thanks alot. I have never seen one before in my life.
