Dogwood looks rough

Galesburg, MI(Zone 6a)

Is it supposed to look this this this time of year in Zone 5? It was beautiful in the spring but have definitely noticed a decline as the summer has gone on. This is my first year at this home so I don't know how old the tree is or type. Thanks!

Might want to look this over. http://www.doityourself.com/stry/identifying-and-treating-harmful-dogwood-diseases

My first thought was to much sun since I planted a dogwood in to much sun and it looked pretty much like that but the leaves turned brown and crisp around the outside. They looked burnt. Yours looks more like a disease.

Dogwood Anthracnose would be my first guess, too.

Hmm. If it is anthracnose it would not be following the pattern laid out in the articles I read. The leaves just started looking funky in the past three weeks. And it has not been wet or cool. Quite the opposite actually. But the pictures do look a lot like what I am seeing. I am wondering about leaf burn too now because I didn't plant the tree and obviously the previous homeowners didn't realize that dogwoods like some afternoon shade. My tree is on the southwest corner of my house and gets no shade at all. I guess I will try removing the worst leaves, spraying with some fungicide and giving it a good watering. If that doesn't help I will send a leaf to the county extension for confirmation and go from there. Thanks.

Sounds like you're on top of it. Good luck and let us know.
