Can anybody ID these?

North Augusta, ON

They keep growing in the pot with Mom's Hibiscus. We keep picking them and putting them in the garden. They start out as green balls and then eventually they open like a flower and grow some more. Here's some shots (3) of the different stages. The green ball, breaking open with almost like petals, and the final product.

Looks like a type of Geastrum, Earthstar Fungus.

North Augusta, ON

Yep :)) Thanks Metro, I just got an ID in an e-mail I sent off to a local Fungii group.

They said the same thing. It's a very cool mushroom :)) I didn't know they changed so drastically over their lifetimes.

Hope everything is well for you?

You're very welcome!

The fungus clearly show characters of the Geastrum type, but I have never seen one that is green, and can't find any reference that talks of one. It must be an unusual species!
There are eight Genera in the Geastraceae Family, I'm not familiar with them all.

Have a great day!

Aloha, Dave
