Whats the problem with this coralbark japanese maple?

Central, AL(Zone 8a)

Sunburn or what? It did fine from the time I planted it around April till maybe 3 weeks ago. It is in full sun and has gotten regular water.

Your climate is hot enough in the summer that most JM's aren't going to be happy in full sun. It would probably do better if you could put it in a spot that gets some sun in the morning but shade in the afternoon. I'm not sure if there's also something else going on, but too much sun could be contributing to the problems.

Thanks--
Maybe I will move it when it goes dormant in the fall. I do have some other japanese maples in partial shade that are doing OK. Most trees with yellow leaves seem to get burned easily around my place--

I won this as a door prize. Is this a Japanese Maple?
