I would like to know if anyone else in the Middle Tennessee area has successfully grown C. o. Crippsii in full sun? I would like to know before I plant it in a pretty hot spot this fall.
Chamaecyparis obtusa Crippsii in full sun?
I planted a Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Filifera Aurea' about 4 years ago and it still looks the same as when I planted it. It is mostly in the sun, but it does have afternoon shade.
Don't know if this helps you any. It is in a clay soil too, which may be my problem with it growing.
I also have a C. p. Filifera. I got it at Girard's and they called it 'chartreuse'. It is in all day sun mostly and is doing great.
Maybe mine needs to be moved. Is your soil mostly clay? How long have you had it?
Unless it's in full shade and has weak growth it's fine. I think most Chamaecyparis like some shade.
