Mixing in Flannels.... using denim

Effingham, SC(Zone 8a)

I was looking at some flannel baby panels on Fabric.com and was wondering if anyone has mixed flannels and cotton for fronts? I thought that it may be different to cut the squares of the panels and use the cotton for everything surrounding the squares. Thought that it would play with texture.

Also, I cut up a couple of jean shorts and a jean shirt (my SO embroidered my office logo on one and forgot to remove the backing. I thought it was tear away and it was not). Was thinking of using the denim with flannel for a casual lap quilt for home. Was thinking of a rag quilt, but not sure if the dogs would play with the seams. Any suggestions?
