Coleus Question

(Tracey) Mobile, AL(Zone 8b)

Do they reseed themselves?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Allowing them to flower does weaken the plant. The flowers will have seeds (provided they are fertile) but I doubt if the seeds would remain viable over winter, if that was what you wanted to know. I'm speaking from a zone 7 perspective but perhaps in your zone 8b they could live: I don't know.

You can save the seeds but they won't be true to the parent. Only cuttings would remain true.

Thanks Pirl.

I wonder if the seed comes directly from the parent plant why it wouldn't be true. I know this to often be the case.. I just wonder what causes it to happen that way..Things that make you go, Hmmm?

: ) Thanks again.

Picture a bee flitting from one coleus to the next and there's your answer.

It's no different from humans. We don't produce a clone of ourselves. It's genetics.

Only cuttings will give you the same identical coleus plant.

Well that makes perfect sense.. You're very helpful.. : )
