transplanting canna during the growing season

Tucson, AZ

hello. i live in arizona where it is very hot and humid right now. i need to dig up all of my canna out of the ground. they will be transplanted in different gardens. should i cut the stems back to just above the ground even though they are actively growing and some are flowering given the hot weather? plus, ppl might not rush to replant once they receive them, so i want to take precautions.

thanks in advance for the help.

I don't think that it would be wise to cut them off yet.
Could you pot them up?

Recently I obtained a canna in a small pot. It was partly cut back.
I repotted it to a larger pot and fertilized it and now it is going to bloom again.

Of course we are not as warm and humid as you are in Arizona.

hi clscott,

there are way too many to pot up. i guess i will just let everyone know that they should get them in the ground like yesterday! LOL thanks for responding.

Hi D,
if you have to dig them up now, you can leave them in a container with water. They will still be alive but may have brown leaves. Who ever pickes them up can pot them or plant them and they will show new growth.
