mushroom ID

Bolingbrook, IL(Zone 5a)

I am sending a picture of a mushroom that I want to know the name of. It is probably as common as dirt but it is all over my yard and some of my garden. Is this a problem??

I cannot identify your mushroom, but I would tell you that it is nothing to worry about it. When you see the fruiting body (the mushroom), it is just the spore bearing structure of a fungus that has been living underground and digesting something there. Once the spores are distributed, the fruiting body decomposes. Some folks don't like the existence or appearance of fungi in the lawn; but it is a problem only if it bothers you.

Commonly called LBM's, Little Brown Mushroom.

The dangerous mushrooms usually have white gills.

Thank you both. I do not really mind them if they are not a problem for my yard. It makes my yard more interesting!
