rose trumpet amaryllis

Solved: my ditch is full, they do their job well, and I get several blooming sessions if I remember right, but do they have an id? I will love them anyway, but help if anyone can

a white slender amaryllis accidently misplanted. I will have to fight the spiders to relocate, it was shared from another ditch on a previous spring, any name ideas,

I don't remember the names of them, but they are Crinum,another member of the amaryllid family,along with Amaryllis,Hippeastrum and many others. I have those two and several others.

Crinum, ok, they are tough, the white one I had to dig 2' to get the bulb out, glad the area was literally a wet ditch, thanx

The rose colored ones look like Ellen Bosanquet crinums..Im not sure what the white variety is... The bulbs can get very large between softball and basketball size, and they like to grow deep.. They multiply rapidly if they are happy with there location..

OMG.... now I think I might have a problem... a very serious problem...I have mine out in the front landscaping bed...all thru the bed..the bed is also full of water pipes!!!! the pipes are only about 12 - 18 inches deep (sprinkler system and main zone valves) ... if I let them continue to grow here, I might be risking some busted pipes.

It is unlikely that the Crinum will break your pipes,unlike tree roots,they have a tendency to deform to anything they encounter. I suppose anything is possible,but that is unlikely.

Yeah, I just ordered some Amaryllis Belladonna and Crinum mix, the bulbs were only 3 dollars a PIECE and they were both the size of SOFTBALLS! They're HUGE, for 3 dollars, I was STUNNED!

Chuckl, I started with 3 discarded bulbs, yes they get softball size with the heat and damp and are tenacious to pop back out of the gnd, have mine planted where it stays damp constantly in a low area, the leaves can get 5' or 6' long. and yes, the white ones are in Hockley area by the public park, ALL of em bloom in the spring, and they literally are buried 2' down.

Ellen Bosanquet, thank you, mine arent deep buried, and we leave them clumped to control them, but we have really mild winters, they freeze back to main stalk, we pull off the burned leaves, and back they come. Most folks around here have the white or red varieties, but I loved the deep rose color. I think my dau has acquired a less slender white amaryllis, but it bloomed earlier and I wasnt home, it has spilled a ton of little bulbs from the flowers and I have been considering gathering them off the ground, but havent done so yet. thanx for the help.
