I am developing a fern and hosta terraced garden on the north shaded area of our house. The plants were divided from parent plants and most have taken off well. The JPF have been slower than others in growth. The only fertilizer used has been "blue water" (Miracle Grow). The area was dug out two feet down removing most of the old soil because it was so poor and compacted and mixing some with plenty of top soil and compost. In the lowest area two drainage sumps were dug and filled with small rocks enclosed in fabric cloth. A stone walk was installed along the outer edge using concrete to hold stones in place. Any thoughts on what type of feeding to give this area?
