Schefflera Tree

Lake Charles, LA

I was given a Schefflera Tree. The lady that had it said it grew 15-20 feet in two years. It makes a canopy. I looked in the plant files, but didn't recognize any of the pictures.
I was wondering if it would be invasive or if it was invade the sewage system or crack my foundation if planted close to the house. Someone posted a pic of one that looked like it a few weeks back, but I can't seem to find it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Perhaps the ID is incorrect. Can we see a picture?

I will take one tomorrow. I

Here's the picture. Can some one please tell me if it will invade my septic system or disturb my foundation?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Angedawn47,
Google has a good link but it doesn't say whether it's invasive or not.

yes it will

Wormfood, are you saying that it will invade my septic system and become invasive?

Waterman, IL(Zone 5a)

They make nice house plants.

Angedawn, perhaps you could post your plant on the ID forum. You could then get a positive ID on your plant. I am not in agreement on it being Schefflera Arboricola. The leaf shape is very different.

Yes , check out the negative comments. Once this tree is big enough to rip up a sidewalk, it's too big to move. Any roots left will grow back. It will grow toward any water sources. And if you're lucky, the winter weather will be too cold and kill it.

If you keep it in a pot you can trim it's root once in a while. By the way, that is not a dwarf version of the plant. I think it's posionous, watch babies and kitties.

On the positive side, it's a beautiful house plant. Loves it outside in the good weather. Cleans the air in your house.

I think it's still in the Araliaceae family.

Thanks, Wormfood. I was afraid of it being like that since it grows so fast.
I went ahead and posted on the plant id forum to get a positive id.
That reminds me, I need to send you some seeds don't I?

Lake Charles, LA

Ok, it looks like Manihot Carthagenensis on the PlantFiles. Doesn't say anything about being invasive.

wow this is much better than umbrella.
does it bleed a white milky substance if you break a leaf off?
and zone 7 thru 11. I'm gonna have to get one.

No big deal on the seeds, I ordered more and can't keep up with them all.

I have extras if you want one. They are all small so they will ship well.
So do you think I can plant it safely in the ground?

(Zone 7a)

I can't find anything that says this plant is invasive in LA or that you've have trouble with the roots. There are two people who own this plant at DG. I would d-mail them and ask if they've had trouble.

Wo rmfood, I think you are looking at the Manihot Grahamii not the Carthagenensis. The leaves are a little different.

good mornin'
check the shapes of the leaves.

Lake Charles, LA

The shape looks like Carth. to me. The Grahami leaves are different than mine. If I am wrong, please tell me.
I will be sending your plant and seeds Monday.

Lecanto, FL(Zone 9a)

I am no expert. I do see as the leaves get larger they straighten out more. Less pronounced as the smaller new leaves.

It doesn't matter to me. I don't fight over names. As a matter of fact I name some of my own plants but I make sure of the family (Euphorbia) name so I can take care of it properly. The zones are similar too which is good for us.

Lake Charles, LA

Oh, I don't care about the name but would like to know for sure. Is there anything else I can send you
I don't think I need the seeds right now, but maybe there will be something else later.
