advice re: cd player in car

My Mazda (2000)cd player is not working. It might play 1 track or 2 on a cd then nothing. I am assuming it is dirty. Is there something I can do other then take it in for $ service? I am heading out across the mountains to central oregon late this afternoon & no radio for 1 1/2 hrs of the 3 1/2 hr trip.
Books on cd make these trips EZ. Thanks.
