I have a gooseberry shrub, it blooms with thousands of flowers, attracts the bees better than almost anything in the early spring, but produces almost no fruit! What am I missing?
thanks, Cristy
Have gooseberry plant, but no fruit!
Does it produce any fruit at all? If it does not, then you may have a plant that is sterile - there was one circulating under a named cultivar name (incorrectly) some few years ago.
If it is producing a few fruits that make it to maturity, then it may need a pollinator to increase productivity. Most gooseberries do not need a pollinator but a few do.
Do you have a variety name to go with your plant. What is the fruit color when ripe?
