What snake is this?

Sierra Foothills, CA(Zone 8a)

Two days ago I found this snake in the middle of the driveway catching some rays....when I went to get my camera, it slithered into the rosemary bush.

This is what I got...

I did a little searching...Gopher Snake was best match.

Thanks Burd-Fotos...I came to the same conclusion as at first I thought it might be a Diamondback rattlesnake.

I noticed a black snake going in and out my shed at the base. My pet rabbit got injured in the back yard a few months ago and we don't know how. We had the emergency vet and our regular vet continually treat him. (maybe a snake bite} We still have him inside and he is much better. Would a black snake do this kind of damage? He couldn't even walk when we found him.

AHH! What a sweetheart! I am not the person to ask about that, sorry!

Not sure the size of the rabbit but it is possible that the black snake may be a (Rat Snake) some get over 7 feet long and it may have gave the rabbit a try..but that's strictly going by your info, the rabbit could have got himself caught on something as well.
