Is it possible for plants to uptake toxins from....

Is it possible for vegetable plants to uptake toxic alkaloids from the leaves and roots of poisonous plants like yew, laurel, wysteria and oleander?

lol - Wow, sounds like a great way to murder someone without getting caught...

I'm not sure about "uptake", but some of the thin-skinned vegetables absorb pretty large things, like E. coli. (I'm thinking especially onions in the ground, but also leafy vegetables and tomatoes, if they're splashed with liquid.) Seems like a little alkaloid molecule would be absorbed as well. Might be an interesting science project to look at quantities...

I did find a study at UC Davis showed that plants can't absorb the alkaloids from oleander. So, in theory, it could be safely used as a mulch for veggie gardens.

Is there any other studies or evidence to back this up?
