A white lilac, which I planted last year, is doing poorly. It bloomed very well this spring but now first one large branch and now the rest of the plant has wilting leaves. The leaves finally brown and fall off. The lilac is between 4 and 5 ft. tall. Our soil is fairly acidic and we live in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Does anyone have any ideas on the problem? Thanks very much.
Problem with my lilac
You could have a Lilac Borer causing your problems.
Take a look at the main stems/trunks, and see if there are any small holes and associated frass. It looks like sawdust - it's the "poop" from borers chewing through the wood.
Thanks so much. I will check. Hope I don't lose this one, white and so fragrant.
