Monitor comparison - does brand matter?

I am replacing a flat panel monitor. I've already decided on a budget. Any reason not to get the largest one I can get from a national chain at my price? My current one is a Dell-branded one that came with my system and it has started to have days where it won't power up or has a fuzzy screen. (BTW, anyone know who actually makes those? I would avoid that brand since I've never had a monitor go out on me before.)
