Pronunciation- Midwest v. East Coast????

Springfield, IL(Zone 6a)

I'm originally from the East Coast and was always taught to pronounce clematis as: KLEM AH TISS. Here in the Midwest, they pronounce it: KLEM AT TISS.

Are there any other regional differences or did my family just pronounce it in a wonky way? Just curious...

Susie,
I've always said Clem AT tiss, but look what Plant Files says:

KLEM-uh-tiss
????

I think we all know what we're talking about. It really doesn't matter to me. :-)

I think that my "KLEM AH TISS" is equal to the plant files "KLME-us-tiss." People here always just look at me funny when I say it that way.

My Pennsylvania Dutch family calls a brugmansia a "brach mahg uh." I know that that one is a incorrect pronounciation that's been passed down through the years. We all have part of a 200+ year old plant.

I have just always wondered about clematis, though. Didn't think to look in the plant files! :)
