Hi!
Could someone tell me if wilting leaves are a sign of Dutch elm disease? And... if the leaves are wilting is the tree too far gone to save? I have a small elm in my yard that is looking rather unhappy. Wondering if I should just remove it and plant something more disease resistant.
Thanks :)
Help with elm disease
Wilting and turning yellow, with the shoot tips drying out blackish.
Cut an affected shoot, and peel off the bark; if there are brown streaks in the white wood under the bark, that is confirmation.
If it is infected, quick action can remove infections in the early stage; cut the branch off a metre below the visible symptoms (oh, and make sure you sterilise the cutters between each cutting!).
Resin
Thanks! I have 2 elms, one is starting symptoms and the other is fine. I think I need an arborist to treat the unaffected one, is that correct?
Thank you for the info!
