Here they are today...seem to be more purple. The pic just does not do it justice. They are actually darker than that.

Wow. What variety is that purple/blue hydrangea in your last two pictures. They are gorgeous.

If I remember correctly it was just your basic pink hydrangea, but obviously my soil is very acidic(?) or whatever changes their color.

Acidic soil keeps them blue while alkaline (sweet/limey) soil keeps them pink. Often a hydrangea in acidic soil, near a cement foundation of a house, will have blue/purple/pink flowers due to the differences in PH of the soil.

GAgirl - Those are really, really lovely. I enjoyed looking at them all. The black stem is really unusual. Love your oakleaf!

Thank you so much, I just had to have the black stem one.

So beautiful

I planted four silver blue variegated hydrangeas and none of them ever get the lace. Just the center part which is not showy at all. Any suggestions? They have been in about 3 years now. I keep thinking just one more year and then I'll yank them.
