Tomatoes in the tropics

HI .. looking for a guide to growing tomatoes in the tropics.

We're in a sandy soil - but I'm going to make some raised beds. I was wondering about daylight, variatles, heat, bugs, etc ..

We grow tomatoes in the dry season (winter) here, heat and humidity make it impossible other times of year, although, "Cherry Tomatoes" will go longer. But often any small tomato is called "Cherry Tomato" and they're not always the same thing. The plants have no real problem growing, it's the pollination that the heat and humidity affect.

Sandy soil is good, if you add a lot of organic matter/compost. The worst problem I found was the Bowerbirds started off taking the red fruit and eventually went on to pick all the green fruit as well. One of our termite species (Mastotermes darwiniensis) also seems to have a liking for tomato plants

I grow cherry or grape tomatoes and pick them a little early. We have fruit flies and the big ones get stung.

Cherry and Currant Tomatoes are the only type hat grow here without a big hassle.

Folks in Florida are having amazing results with tomatoes in ebuckets.
